Hybrid prices stink.

But getting self-publishing help doesn't have to cost big bucks! We'll publish your book as an eBook, and in print, globally, within 2 weeks for just $999 all in, leaving you bathed in sweetness and light. You can think of Myriobiblion as the chic, classy parfumeuses of the self-publishing world. We're more of a classic 'No.5' while others might seem a somewhat less appealing number two.

How? Well, send us your manuscript. Give us an idea of how you want the cover art to look (send some examples of covers you like as an idea). Tell us the size you want it to be. We'll create your book layout using the industry standard Adobe InDesign. We'll design and create your artwork. We'll provide an ISBN and EAN barcode. Then put it all together and... Boom! We’ll create all the various book files necessary and then guide you through the uploading process either over WhatsApp or through screen sharing (We could of course, publish through our Myriobiblion accounts but we would have to sift through complex rights, royalties and tax issues first, in order to do so - so it’s easier and cheaper for you, to have your own Amazon, B&N, Apple Books etc. accounts).

Don’t delay - start today! As soon as you order our Pro service, you’ll be redirected to a form where you can answer a few questions about your book, upload your manuscript and upload examples of covers of existing books that you would like us to use to get the vibe you're looking for. Then we'll have a quick WhatsApp call to fine tune the details.

Within 14 days, all these steps will have been completed and your eBook will be available online at Amazon Kindle, Apple Books and Google Play Books at your stipulated price. It will be ready to order in print globally through Amazon and IngramSpark (who distribute to vendors such as Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Adlibris, Waterstones, Foyles and many more, worldwide).

Of course, you can get in touch with us first if you have any questions! Use the contact page, email or the WhatsApp button below.

A few of our cover designs...

And here's a whole book we made earlier.

From a Google Drive document to a globally available book, in print and as an instantly downloadable eBook in 14 days.

This is The Blood Oak, a children's novella. At just over 100 pages long, it is available in print, either from the Myriobiblion Bookshop, or from Amazon globally. It is also available as an eBook from the usual sources linked below and is also downloadable direct from our shop. It was made in a week from scratch.

Here's what we did in those (fewer than) 14 days

  1. Created the project in InDesign
    Decided on size - 203.2mm x 127 mm (8 x 5) in this case
    Decided on paper type/weight
    Created the basic page layout
Added the body text from the Google doc
    Added chapters
    Created table of contents
Created publishers information and copyright page
Generated ISBN numbers (one for eBook, one for print book)
Generated EAN barcode for print version

  2. Created cover art using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Made one hi-res PNG version for eBook - an amalgamated front cover
Made one bleed/trim safe PDF version for print book - front, rear and spine

  3. Exported ePub3 reflowable version for Kindle, Apple Books, IngramSpark, Google Play Books and for Myriobiblion Bookshop
Adjusted colour profiles/modes for PDFs and set suitable PDF export type
Exported PDF version to create a .kpf eBook using Kindle Create
Exported print-ready PDF for Amazon - for print books available on Amazon
Exported print-ready PDF for IngramSpark - for print books for 3rd party vendors and Myriobiblion Bookshop

  4. Ran the ePub3 through ePub checking software to validate
Wrote book description for online vendors
Found most suitable BISAC codes and keywords
    Decided on pricing

  5. Uploaded ePub and cover art to Apple Books (adding description, pricing, on-sale locations, BISAC codes, keywords etc.) waited for validation and review (this takes a few hours)
Uploaded ePub and cover art to Google Play Books (again, adding description, pricing, on-sale locations, BISAC codes, keywords) waited for validation and review (this similarly takes a few hours)
Uploaded ePub and cover art to Amazon (again adding more or less the same details as for Apple and Google) waited for validation and review (this took around 24 hours but can take 72 hours)
Uploaded print PDF and wrap-around cover PDF versions to Amazon - able to order a hardcopy print proof the next morning.
Uploaded print PDF and wrap-around cover PDF versions to IngramSpark.

  6. The Apple Books and Google Play Books eBook versions went live
The Amazon Kindle eBook went live
Both the Amazon KDP and IngramSpark print versions are awaiting proof copy
Pre-order dates set for Amazon and IngramSpark print versions

All this was done within a week. The eBooks were all live within 48 hours of uploading and we were able to order print proof copies in around the same time from Amazon.

Getting published:
How much does it cost?

1. It's free?

Quite frankly, everything we do at Myriobiblion, you can do yourself at home. With the necessary software, one of the widely available self-publishing guides, a lot of Googling (or Binging) and YouTubing, you can publish your own book, if not for free, then pretty close to it. Digital publishing and POD (Print on Demand) have put publishing a book within everyone's reach.

2. A fair price?

So why pay us the $999? Well, firstly - for the sake of convenience. You're a writer, a wordsmith, an artist, for sure - but are you also a graphic artist, a layouting or typesetting expert, a tech whizz and administrator? There's a lot involved in the DIY approach - time, effort, mastering new talents. Secondly, we have been in the book business for 25 years and are well-versed in all those, un-writerly skills. Also, $999, although not exactly loose change, is less than the annual cost of licensing the software we use, or the price of a golfing weekend.

3. A lot!

According to Blurb.com in a very informative article here, publishing a book can be very expensive - $500-$800 for a cover; layout $250-$750; $90 per hour for photo editing. They put the average cost for publishing a novel at $2000 to $5000. Like... Wow!

Cover or book?

Check out what we offer below and choose which option best suits your needs. Then go for it, and we'll get the ball rolling - or indeed, the book printing.

What is a Myriobiblion?

The Myriobiblios (Greek: ten thousand books) was a 9th century book written by Photius of Constantine and comprised a list of 279 books which he had read and reviewed (he was perhaps the first ever book reviewer). We might not get to ten-thousand books, but then again, neither did Photius.

Our focus is 100% on getting your book out into the market. We do everything ourselves. No out-sourcing. No Fiverr workers. No monkey business. We love books. We have been in the book business 25 years. Editing. Proofing. Reviewing. Writing. Designing. Creating. Publishing. If you're looking at publishing your book digitally and/or via POD - great - that's just days away. If you want to go with offline printing, just let us know. Ask us for more information via the contact form or good old email.

The Blood Oak
A Christmassy, murdery, ghostly bedtime story for children

Are you looking for a children's book that is hugely entertaining? A bit Christmassy, a bit spooky, a bit sad, a bit funny? This children's bedtime (or any other time) story has got it all!

Download the eBook now!

Order the paperback from Amazon!

It was exactly one hundred and twenty-five years ago tonight…

A missing girl. A determined police inspector. The storm of the century. A piano playing itself late at night. A diamond ring clue and a ghostly light from Ladywalk Woods that haunts the young heiress involved in the disappearance of her well-liked classmate.
The Blood Oak is perfect for reading aloud to courageous children of any age. It has some scary bits (but not too scary) and some Christmassy bits (very much Christmassy), and some of the language is rather advanced - which is why reading aloud by an adult is recommended. There is also a glossary at the back to explain the tricky bits.

It takes about an hour and a half to read, all in all. Each chapter heading has a ‘scare level’ indicator and a read time for that chapter.

The Blood Oak is a story in the vein of the classics of my childhood. It’s a bit old school in some ways and modern in others. It’s a rather genteel telling of a spooky Christmas story that doesn’t talk down to children.

Thanks for your Pro order!

Thanks for for putting your faith in Myriobiblion to get your precious work out into the world! Ok, let’s get started. Fill out the form below with the following information:

About your book:

Your manuscript:

Preferably a Microsoft .docx or another format that allows us to follow your formatting. It should be ready to publish. Include your table of contents (if required). It should be proofread and edited to within an inch of its life.

Description of your story:

Tell us about your book. The story, The characters. The most important scenes. The twists. The keystone upon which the whole rests - things you might wish to show or hint at on the cover. Suggest other books or stories or films which share the same kind of emotion that your book will impart. Describe the vibe. Make us fall in love with or loathe your characters!

Cover examples:

Browse your bookshelf, visit a bookshop or library or look online and think about what really appeals to you about a particular book cover. Look at other covers in the genre within which your story best fits. Think about those really popular books. What are some things they might have in common? Look at the fonts used for the title, the writer’s name, the back cover text. Try to find the common thread and then try to imagine a way to go against the flow somewhat - to find something original. The more detail you can give here, the better. Take pictures or screen capture the covers to zip and upload below. (Maximum allowed size of zipped file is 16MB)

Print information:

Size/formats:

Note: Books below a certain number of pages cannot have text along the spine due to space. If you want your book to have legible spine text, large enough to read easily, the book should be at least 100 pages long.

Choose the sizes for your paperback and hardback versions carefully. Amazon KDP and IngramSpark offer a wide variety of sizes. Amazon KDP list their options on their Print Options page here (click the Trim size specifications tab to open the dropdown table).

IngramSpark also offer a wide selection from which to choose (see their Trim Size Matrix pdf here).

Note: Ensure that both KDP and IngramSpark offer the size you wish your book to be in both paperback and hardback formats.

Here are a few common sizes:

Mass Market Paperback: Typically about 4.25 x 7 inches. These are the smaller, more affordable editions you often see in airports and supermarkets.

Trade Paperback: These are larger and often have better paper quality. Common sizes include 5.5 x 8.5 inches and 6 x 9 inches.

Digest Size: This size is less common but can be found at approximately 5.5 x 8.25 inches.

Trade Hardcover: These are the most common size, often around 6 x 9 inches.

Large Format Hardcover: These can be larger, measuring about 7 x 10 inches or sometimes even bigger.

Small Format Hardcover: Less common but can be found at approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches.

Paper type:

For POD novels, black ink interiors are more cost-effective. Colour inks are available but tend to prohibitively increase the print cost per book.

Black ink on cream paper is the classic paperback style.

Paperback:
Black ink and 50-61 pound (74-90 GSM) cream paper
Black ink and 50-61 pound (74-90 GSM) white paper
Premium color ink and 60-71 pound (88-105 GSM) white paper
Standard color interior with 50-61 pound (74-90 GSM) white paper

Hardback:
Black ink and 50-61 pound (74-90 GSM) cream paper
Black ink and 50-61 pound (74-90 GSM) white paper
Premium color ink and 60-71 pound (88-105 GSM) white paper

Fill in the details listed above to the form below:

Use the box at the bottom to add anything you want to let us know about your requirements for the book setup. If you have any other questions please email seperately to [email protected].

Once you click 'Send', the details will be sent to us. We'll have a look at the manuscript and your cover suggestions and examples. Then we'll be in touch within 24 hours to arrange a quick WhatsApp call to do a bit of fine tuning!

Thanks for your cover order!

Thanks for for putting your faith in Myriobiblion to design a cover suitable for your wonderful book in eBook, print and audiobook formats! Ok, let’s get started. The more detailed information you give us about what you are looking for, the easier it will be for us to create something that you love! Tell us all about the book so that we get a feel for it. Fill out the form below with the following information:

Give us the details!

Description of your story:

Tell us about your book. The story, The characters. The most important scenes. The twists. The keystone upon which the whole rests - things you might wish to show or hint at on the cover. Practicalities:

Number of pages:

We need to know the number of pages at your chosen size for both paperback and hardback, and also the paper type required, in order to work out the thickness of the book and thus the width that the book’s spine will be.

Note: Books below a certain number of pages cannot have text along the spine due to space. If you want your book to have legible spine text, large enough to read easily, the book should be at least 100 pages long.

Size:

We need to know your chosen size for both paperback and hardback, in order to create separate sizes for each format.

Paper type:

The paper thickness has a bearing on the eventual breadth of the book. This allows us to calculate the width of the spine. These are the ranges used by Amazon KDP and IngramSpark. Tell us which range your chosen paper fits within.

Paper types (thickness by weight):

Crème 50lb / 74gsm: Black & white printing
White 50lb / 74gsm: Black & white printing & standard colour printing
White 70lb / 104gsm: All colour printing options

Once you click 'Send', the details will be sent to us. We'll have a look at your story details, cover suggestions and examples and have a few designs for you to look at in a few days.
